Civil Litigation Lawsuits in the U.S.
Litigation involves going to court. If it’s not a criminal case, where the state is pursuing criminal charges against a defendant, it’s civil. The subject matter of a civil case could be almost anything. Examples include divorce, real estate disputes, broken contracts, or any other situation where a person is looking for a remedy for damages they’ve suffered, monetary or otherwise. Civil attorneys function in various domains -- from wrongful death, to collections to general litigation. They are all civil attorneys.
